Drug interaction guide

Taking these two medicines together can cause your blood pressure to drop lower than usual, especially when you first start the combination or when your dose is increased. Why this happens

Both medicines work to lower blood pressure but in different ways. Bisoprolol is a beta-blocker that slows the heart rate, while ramipril is an ACE inhibitor that relaxes blood vessels. Because they both target the cardiovascular system, their effects add together (an additive effect).

It is very common for doctors to prescribe these two medicines together, especially for heart failure or after a heart attack. When you start taking them, be careful when standing up quickly from a sitting or lying position. Ensure you attend your scheduled blood tests to check your kidney function and potassium levels. If you feel severely dizzy or faint, contact your doctor.
