Can I take Pyridostigmine and Ramipril together?

Why this happens

Both drugs can affect a system in the body that regulates swelling and blood pressure. Ramipril (an ACE inhibitor) prevents the breakdown of a substance called bradykinin. Pyridostigmine can also influence this pathway, and when combined, the levels of bradykinin may rise too high, leading to swelling. Additionally, both drugs can lower blood pressure through different pathways, leading to an additive effect.

You can usually take these together, but you must be aware of the signs of an allergic reaction. Seek immediate medical help if you experience swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or if you have difficulty breathing. If you feel very dizzy when standing up, speak to your doctor as your blood pressure may need monitoring.
