Sukkarto (metformin) can lower the levels of Vitamin B12 (hydroxocobalamin) in your body over time. However, taking hydroxocobalamin is actually the treatment for this effect, so they do not 'clash' in a harmful way.

Sukkarto (metformin) can interfere with how the body absorbs Vitamin B12 from the gut. Hydroxocobalamin is a form of Vitamin B12 used to replace what is lost or missing.
What you should do
Back to contentsIt is safe and often necessary to take these together. If you are on long-term Sukkarto, your doctor may have prescribed hydroxocobalamin specifically to prevent a deficiency. Continue taking both as prescribed and have your B12 levels checked regularly by your GP.
